Witnesses say three to four suspects fled the location westbound on Sixth Avenue in a black vehicle.

A parent at the scene said all children in nearby La Casa De Don Pedro were brought inside, put into lockdown, and then later on taken to a different location to be reunited with parents.

The Newark Preschool Council Academy did not have a full day of school and only a few students were there, according to a parent. They were also placed into lockdown and released to parents later in the afternoon.

Police say no arrests have been made. Police have not released the name of the wounded man.
