Man shot dead by police in Tuckerton

TUCKERTON - Law enforcement officers tell News 12 New Jersey that police shot and killed a man last night at a home in Tuckerton.

Police were called to the home at 207 Otis St. for a domestic dispute at around 8:30 p.m. where authorities say the man allegedly charged police with a meat cleaver.

The Ocean County Prosecutors Office identified the man as 35-year-old Steven Theoharides.

Authorities say the officers opened fire killing Theoharides. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police officers were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
