PARAMUS - A Paramus volunteer rescue squad member was honored yesterday for his quick actions that saved the life of a man in Washington, D.C.
EMT Brian Gatens was visiting friends at a bar near the Capitol when suddenly a man inside the establishment went into cardiac arrest. Gatens quickly jumped into action and began administering CPR to Jason Young.
Young credits being alive today to the quick actions of the 24-year-old EMT. He says he's working to figure out exactly what caused his cardiac arrest and is thankful that the episode shed light on a medical problem that went undetected.
