Man pleads not guilty in fatal stabbing at restaurant

NEW BRUNSWICK - A man has pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in the stabbing death of a central New Jersey man at a restaurant. reports 32-year-old Edgar Martinez's lawyer entered the plea at his arraignment Tuesday. Martinez is accused of fatally stabbing 20-year-old Jovanni Garcia-Elvira during an argument at around 4 a.m. Saturday in New Brunswick.

Martinez was captured on a nearby street shortly after the stabbing occurred. Authorities have not said what the men were arguing about.

Assistant Prosecutor Scott LaMountain says investigators have the murder weapon and Martinez confessed to police.

Martinez's attorney, George Nassif, asked the prosecutor to preserve any blood samples because Martinez's intoxication could play a role in his defense.

Bail is set at $2 million.
