EDGEWATER - Authorities say the intended victim of a robbery in Edgewater is behind bars after killing an assailant.

The Bergen County prosecutor says 19-year-old Khari Noerdlinger, of Edgewater, stabbed and killed a 16-year-old trying to rob him on Old River Road late Sunday night.

Police say the assailant and four of his friends came to Edgewater from Rockland County in New York to commit robbery. They say Noerdlinger fought back, stabbed the minor and tried to get rid of evidence with others.

The 16-year old, only identified by his initials "SL," was brought to Palisades Medical Center with stab wounds.  He died a short time later. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. The official cause was a stab wound to the femoral artery in his leg.

Noerdlinger, the son of a former aide to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, was charged with manslaughter, weapons possession and hindering apprehension.

Those who live, work and send their kids to day care on the section of Old River Road where it happened say robberies and murder are not the norm there.
