PLAINFIELD - A man was killed in an overnight house fire in Plainfield.
The flames sparked around 2 a.m. on the second floor of a house located at 1200 Landsdowne Terrace.
Fire investigators say the man was the only person living in the home, but there were several pets including three dogs, three cats and three birds.
They say all of the pets survived, but one of the birds flew away. Several neighbors have taken the animals in until animal control can take them.
Neighbors described the victim as an animal lover who spent a lot of time advocating for homeless pets.
The man's identity is not being released until his next of kin is notified.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
