BERNARDS TOWNSHIP - Police in Bernards Township say a construction worker is dead after a tree fell on top of his truck.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. as the worker was driving home, according to the Basking Ridge Police Chief.  The chief says the driver was riding on Mount Airy Road as crews were making repairs when the top half of a large tree broke off and landed on the truck, killing him.

The stretch of Mount Airy Road west of Route 287 was closed off during the investigation.  It has since been reopened.
