Person in custody after possible standoff in Newark

NEWARK - A man was taken into custody following a standoff in Newark Thursday.

Several police and emergency medical units were called to the house at around noon.

Police say the man was held up inside a home near South Orange Avenue and Ninth Street with his infant. Several other homes were cleared during the incident.

The situation was resolved peacefully and the child was not hurt, according to police.

Investigators say the incident may have stemmed from a domestic dispute.
