Man gets 23-year prison sentence in frozen remains case

NEWARK - A man who pleaded guilty in the death of a man whose frozen remains were found in the driveway of a Newark home has been sentenced to 23 years in state prison.

Essex County prosecutors say Fateem Moses will have to serve nearly 20 years before he becomes eligible for parole. The 36-year-old Orange man had pleaded guilty last December to aggravated manslaughter and a weapons count stemming from the February 2016 slaying of Omar Faines.

Prosecutors say Moses shot the 31-year-old Newark man in a car and dumped his body in the driveway of a Rose Terrace home. Faines' body was found the following morning.

Prosecutors say a motive for the killing remains unclear, though they say Moses was close with Faines' family.
