Man fatally struck by moving train in Montvale

MONTVALE - New Jersey Transit officials say a man was struck and killed by a train in Montvale just after noon today.

According to NJ Transit officials, the man crawled under a crossing gate as the train approached and turned his back to the oncoming train. The engineer sounded the horn but couldn't stop in time, according to officials.

None of the 20 passengers on the Spring Valley, N.Y.-bound train were injured. Service was temporarily suspended along the Pascack Valley line between Spring Valley and Woodcliff Lake.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
