Man dies in fire at Lakewood homeless encampment Tent City

LAKEWOOD - A man has died in a fire at the Lakewood homeless encampment, Tent City.

Authorities say the 45-year-old victim was found badly burned 10 feet from his burning tent at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

People who knew the victim say he lived in Tent City for more than a year and had a culinary background.

They say his wood-burning stove may have caused the fire, but this has not been confirmed by officials.

Investigators from the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office interviewed witnesses in an effort to find out how the blaze began.
