NEWARK - In the latest of a wave of violence in Newark since Christmas, a man and woman were shot Tuesday night.

The man was killed and the woman was wounded.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of Hudson and Sussex in the city’s central ward around 7:15 p.m. Three guns were reportedly recovered at the scene.

“What I understand is that it was a dispute between cousins. One of the persons had two guns; the other had a gun inside, too,” says Newark Mayor Luis A. Quintana.

Quintana attended the funeral earlier today for Zainee Hailey, one of the victims of a Christmas day shootings. The mayor says that Newark needs more police on the streets and that he will unveil a plan for that soon.
