NEWARK - (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a northern New Jersey man has been charged in a recent string of armed robberies at hotels in the state.

Tremone Burnett of Orange was charged Tuesday with six counts of robbery and a weapons offense. He could face up to life in prison if convicted on all counts.

The 42-year-old Burnett was already facing related charges brought by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors say the armed robberies occurred in May and June at hotels in Carteret, Lebanon, Newark, Rockaway, and Secaucus.

During each robbery, the assailant pointed a handgun at a hotel employee and, in some instances, tied the victim's hands and feet. The robber also stole uncashed employee checks, safe deposit boxes, cash, an ATM, and a personal credit card.
