Man accused in Millburn 'nanny cam' attack goes on trial (4/19/16)

MILLBURN - A New Jersey man accused of brutally attacking a woman as she watched cartoons with her 3-year-old child in an attack captured on hidden camera has gone on trial.

Opening arguments in the case against Shawn Custis began Tuesday morning.

His attorney says he is not the man shown on the video captured on a so-called "nanny cam" hidden inside the home's living room. He previously pleaded not guilty.

The recording showed the woman sitting on a couch watching television with her child, then getting up to investigate a noise in the back of the house. She backed up toward the couch as a man came into the room and started savagely beating her.

Authorities have said the woman suffered a concussion, chipped teeth, an injured lip, facial swelling and leg injuries.
