Man, 34, rescued after falling through ice while snowshoeing on Ramapo Lake

PASSAIC COUNTY - A 34-year-old man is recovering after he fell into Ramapo Lake Friday.

The man was snowshoeing in Ringwood State Park at around 1:30 p.m. when one foot got stuck in the ice. When he tried to free himself, the ice broke.

A witness saw what happened and called 911.

Oakland police used a ladder to pull the man out of the water and were able to resuscitate him at the scene.

The victim was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson. Police have not released information on his condition but say he was alive and responsive when he arrived at the hospital.
