MONMOUTH BEACH - Floodwater turned into an icy nightmare for a mail carrier in Monmouth Beach whose truck was overcome by overflow from the Shrewsbury River.

Cynthia Scott, of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, says firefighters from Long Branch and Monmouth Beach were called in to rescue the driver when he got stuck at the corner of North Road and Shrewsbury Drive Friday morning.

All of the mail from inside the truck was preserved.

The driver is not believed to have been injured in the incident.
