GARFIELD - A Garfield man whose handicap ramp was stolen received a special delivery from his mail carrier.
Joseph Connelly suffers from multiple sclerosis and prostate cancer and was left stranded last week after thieves took off with his aluminum wheelchair ramp.
"I just lost my wife from cancer a few months ago, and I'm still getting over that. Then this hits me and it makes it harder," says Connolly. "It just keeps getting worse and worse."
Connelly's story touched many people, including his mail carrier Gerard Waksmundski.. Waksmundski says when he learned about what happened he immediately told his son, who is a Boy Scout, that they were taking on the project of building a new ramp.
The two worked all weekend on the ramp and delivered it to Connelly's doorstep along with the mail.
Connelly was thankful, saying that sometimes there is a good ending.
