Madison apartment building partially collapses after fire

MADISON - Residents of one Madison apartment building are grateful to be alive tonight after a fire tore through their building causing it to partially collapse.

The fire broke out at around 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the second floor and roof were in danger of collapse and eventually did. A woman and a dog had to be rescued off of the second floor. The woman was treated and later released from the hospital.

It took hours for firefighters to get the fire under control. No one was hurt in the fire.

Madison's fire chief said it appeared the fire started in the basement but had no word on what may have caused it.
