TRENTON - Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno has remained out of the spotlight for most of Gov. Chris Christie’s two terms, leaving some to wonder if she is prepared to be New Jersey’s governor if Christie resigns to join President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.

But Lt. Gov. Guadagno says that she is absolutely ready to step up if the time comes.

“For all of you that don’t know the lieutenant governor is supposed to be prepared for whatever comes next,” she says.

Guadagno is a former assistant U.S. attorney and Monmouth County sheriff. She has served as the governor’s second-in-command for nearly eight years.

It is not known what, if any, position Christie could serve in the Trump administration. Christie is currently serving as head of the Trump transition team.

“He has worked very hard on that,” Guadagno says. “We don’t know, I don’t know, what comes next.”

The governor says that he also does not know what comes next.

"We have not talked about anything,” Christie said on the Today Show. “President-elect was absolutely adamant about not discussing the transition before he was elected…he wanted to remain focused.”

New Jersey Senate Democrats say that they are preparing to work with Trump, who is a Republican. Sen. Cory Booker says that he has been focused on building partnerships in the Republican-held Congress.

“I’m not discouraged. I’m doubling down,” Sen. Booker says. “I’m going to do everything I can to deliver for our state.”

Gov. Christie has been discussed as a possible candidate for Attorney General.
