Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno officially announces run for governor at restaurant in Keansburg (1/17/17)

KEANSBURG - Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno made the announcement this afternoon that she is officially running for governor of New Jersey.

The lieutenant governor made the announcement at La Playa restaurant in Keansburg, since she personally helped the owners rebuild and reopen after Superstorm Sandy.

Guadagno scarcely mentioned Gov. Chris Christie in her speech. Despite her work with him over the past seven years, her slogan is simply "Better."

Guadagno was formerly a federal prosecutor in New York, and later a sheriff in Monmouth County. She's made the New Jersey business community one of her top priorities over her time as lieutenant governor.

Guadagno took shots at the governor in her speech, slamming his statehouse renovation plan.

Guadagno will be competing against other Republicans already in the race, such as Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, Nutley Commissioner Steve Rogers and Ocean County businessman Joseph Rullo.

The primary will be held June 6.
