Long faces at Monmouth Park Racetrack

OCEANPORT - The horses at Monmouth Park were only allowed on the track before the sun came up today due to the oppressive weather.

Extreme heat and humidity sidelined the horses, aside from the 5 a.m. race, as all 12 scheduled races were canceled. They've been rescheduled for Monday.

On an average Friday, $500,000 would be bet in-house and another $6 million would be made worldwide off of bets. Today, there were just empty seats.

A simulcast of opening day at Saratoga was shown in an attempt to fill the void for some disappointed would-be spectators.
