LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP - A beach replenishment effort on southern Long Beach Island is set to resume after work crews abandoned the project last winter for other jobs.

NJ.com reports three dredges from Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. will return to the Ocean County island between April 7 and 10 to continue the beach replenishment that was halted in December.

A spokesman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia district says work will begin in Beach Haven and stretch to the Holgate section of Long Beach Township, which was hit particularly hard by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and subsequent winter storms.

Township officials unloaded approximately 35,000 cubic yards of sand on Holgate's beaches this winter after the Illinois-based company packed up shop, refusing to return to work until the spring months.
