FORDS - Local postal workers are fighting back against a plan to cut service. They say that cutting hours will also cut jobs.

Letter carriers are asking customers to sign petitions and call their congressmen to vote against a bill that would cut Saturday service. Customers at the Fords post office Monday told News 12 New Jersey that six-days-a-week delivery service needs to stay.

Letter carriers say losing one day will make a big difference. Union heads say one less delivery day means a loss of 80,000 to 100,000 jobs nationwide, and they fear it'd be just the beginning.

The bipartisan Senate proposal also encourages cuts in post office staffing and refunding postal overpayments to the federal retirement system.
