LINDEN - High school students in Linden have returned to class on Friday after being evacuated from school Thursday morning.
Linden High School was evacuated as a precaution after several cafeteria workers said that they felt sick while working. The students were evacuated to the athletic field while the Linden Fire Department and Union County hazmat team came to investigate.
The students were dismissed to go home just before 11 a.m.
School officials believe the workers were exposed to pepper spray, but have been unable to determine with absolute certainty that this is the case. Officials do say that whatever the substance was, it has dissipated and is no longer in the school.
The workers affected are expected to be OK and the school was determined to be safe.
