WEEHAWKEN - The New York-bound center tube of the Lincoln Tunnel was shut down this morning, causing massive delays throughout the area, following a serious accident that injured 61 people.

Officials say the crash involved a motorcycle and three buses. They say the motorcyclist was severely hurt and transported to Bellevue Hospital. Thirteen others were also taken to nearby hospitals, but most people were treated at the scene.

Port Authority spokeswoman Jennifer Friedberg says the crash happened at around 7:25 a.m., about three-quarters of the way toward Manhattan in the tunnel that connects New Jersey and New York City.

The center tube reopened shortly before 2 p.m., according to the state Department of Transportation's traffic website. Friedberg says NJ Transit operated two of the buses and Monsey Tours operated the third.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
