LEONARDO - Residents are upset that a 9/11 memorial in the Leonardo section of Middletown Township damaged by a storm three years ago still has not been repaired.
The three granite stones that made up the monument were toppled over like dominoes.
Just one marker stands, but it's not stable on its own and is being held in place with paver stones.
The concrete platform is gone too. People who visited the site today say the neglect here is disrespectful to those who died in the terrorist attack.
The Middletown Elks Lodge originally constructed the memorial and a member tells News 12 New Jersey the state would not allow them to rebuild after the storm.
They say local fisherman pulled the stone out of the water, and put it up themselves.
