SHIP BOTTOM - Evacuations on Long Beach Island will become mandatory Friday morning as water began flooding the streets Thursday night in Ship Bottom, days before Hurricane Irene is scheduled to make landfall.

News 12 New Jersey was on the barrier island as the streets started to flood. With the ground saturated from Thursday's storm, Long Beach Island officials say Irene could do some serious damage.
