Lawmakers review budget cuts to senior programs

TRENTON - A hearing room in Trenton has been packed today by nursing home residents and lobbyists eager to tell lawmakers how seniors will be affected by state budget cuts.

Gov. Chris Christie cut $1.3 billion from the budget that Democrats sent him last month, with nursing homes losing roughly $30 million in aid.

A program that helped keep the blind and disabled population out of managed care lost $11 million.

The Christie administration says it cut overfunded accounts, and that the cuts don't impact services or programs.
