EDISON - State lawmakers are taking a closer look at New Jersey's privately run halfway houses.

The extra attention comes in the wake of a series of reports detailing drug use, gang activity and violence at some of the institutions.

The Senate Legislative Oversight Committee took up the matter today in Trenton. The state Assembly will look into halfway houses next week.
