FORT LEE - Democratic lawmakers from New Jersey and New York are calling on Republican Gov. Chris Christie to sign a measure overhauling the powerful bistate agency that oversees the regions airports, bridges and tunnels.

New Jersey Democratic Senators Bob Gordon and Loretta Weinberg, as well as Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, joined on Wednesday with New York Democratic Assemblyman Jim Brennan to ask Christie to sign the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey legislation.

The states must enact the same bill for reforms, which include whistleblower protections and the creation of rotating chairmanship, to take effect.

New York has already passed a bill that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed. Christie has said he supports that measure, which in New Jersey was sponsored by Republican state Sen. Tom Kean Jr.
