NEW BRUNSWICK - A new federal law going into effect later this month could help students and parents better determine actual college costs.

The federal mandate that kicks in on Oct. 29 will require colleges to put a net price calculator on their website.

The cost estimator on the Rutgers University website gives parents the option to plug in residence, credit hours, books and scholarship information to help determine the cost estimate.
