TOMS RIVER - Lavallette Police Chief Colin Grant, 48, of Toms River, has been arrested for assault as the result of a domestic argument.

Police say Grant's girlfriend told them she was assaulted late Friday night in the house they share. The officers noticed injuries on the female, and after interviewing her they determined Grant assaulted her.

He was arrested and has surrendered his service and personal weapons.

Grant is currently on vacation time.
