KEARNY - Two large brush fires in northern New Jersey are causing problems for mass transit customers.

The fires broke out Tuesday afternoon in Kearny and Secaucus. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles at the height of the fires.

Rail service between Newark and New York City was suspended for a time, but has since been restored. There are residual delays of around 30 to 40 minutes.

The Main and Bergen line trains are mostly back on schedule.

Rail tickets will be cross-honored by PATH, NJ Transit buses and private bus carriers.

Amtrak trains in the area of the fire are also reporting some delays.

No damage has been reported to any train tracks. There have not been any reports of any injuries.
