LAKE HOPATCONG - Officials from Lake Hopatcong have launched a new app to help tourists navigate the lake and find restaurants and other nearby attractions.

Tourism is a major driver of the area's economy and the Lake Hopatcong Foundation hopes the new app, for smartphones and tablets, will lure in visitors. The calm waters of the lake have appealed to boaters, fishermen and swimmers since the 1800s, with many calling the area a summer alternative to the Jersey Shore.

Among the app's various functions, it helps users find places to rent boats, and will alert boaters about water levels.
