Laid off Trenton police officers back on the job

TRENTON - Trenton's police force is stronger today thanks to the city rehiring more than a dozen officers and restoring promotions to others.

Last year, the city laid off more than 100 officers and demoted several others due to budget concerns. This year, the department received a $3 million grant that enabled them to rehire and restore officers to their ranks.

Trenton's force now stands at 241 officers, but that is still less than a high of more than 370. The city's police director says he is working to find ways to put more officers on the force.
