KEANSBURG - Water parks around the state are hoping for a Labor Day heat wave.
Action Park, Six Flags Hurricane Harbor and other parks say cooler weather this summer kept visitors away from many water parks.
Bill Gehlhaus, the co-owner of Runaway Rapids in Keansburg, says he attributes the dip in attendance to this season's mild temperatures. "The water park functions on hot weather and when it's 60 degrees at 9 o'clock in the morning, mom says 'I'm not getting in a bathing suit,'" he says.
On the other hand, the amusement park side of the business has been thriving on days with temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
Gehlhaus says the water park needs 90-degree days to flourish.
