LACEY - Lacey police have released a sketch of a man they believe assaulted and robbed a cab driver.
Police say the Lakewood Transportation driver picked up a fare at Central Avenue in Lakewood around 4 a.m. on Aug. 15. They say the two traveled about 25 minutes into Lacey before the passenger asked to stop.
Authorities say once they reached Lakeside Drive near Marine Road, the driver pulled over and the passenger tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill. When the driver refused to accept the phony bill, police say the suspect grabbed a telephone wire and wrapped it around the neck of the driver. He stopped after nearly strangling the man, and then stole $124 in cash from the driver, police say.
