RED BANK - A New Jersey teen is doing her part to help put books in the hands of kids whose families can't afford them.
Kyra Citron, 15, of Brielle, has collected as many as 6,000 books, mostly children's titles, from area families who no longer needed them.
Citron donated a truckload of books to the charity Bridge of Books Foundation, which in turn gives them to schools, libraries and doctors' offices.
"I want this to go to underprivileged children because they don't have the chance to read," Citron says. "They don't get to have books, and I really want to share the power of reading."
Citron started collecting books as her bat mitzvah project three years ago and has continued the effort.
