ORANGE - A Kane in Your Corner investigation into a gas station overcharging its customers has led to a state investigation into the Lukoil station in Orange.
The Division of Consumer Affairs is looking into whether managers and owners at the station on Central Avenue deliberately manipulated prices at the pump. The station has been shut down and its pumps red-tagged.
This follows a News 12 New Jersey investigation over two consecutive days where a customer bought gas that should have been $3.29 a gallon and was charged $4.09.
In addition, the New Jersey Gasoline C-Store Automotive Association says the Orange Lukoil is not a member and is calling on the state to impose penalties.
Executive Director of the NJGCA Sal Risalvato says, "The thing that really has me sick is the bad impression of all gas retailers that people will get from this episode."
