UNION CITY - Following last night's Kane In Your Corner investigation, the mayor of Union City has hired a former U.S. attorney to investigate Police Chief Charles Everett. The Kane In Your Corner investigation found that Charles Everett billed the Board of Education $60 an hour to work out at the gym as part of an off-duty assignment. Everett made $45,000 a year doing off-duty security at the Jose Marti Athletic Field, but News 12 New Jersey cameras caught him showing up late, leaving early and working out at the police gym. A city spokesman says Mayor Brian Stack and Everett have decided that the police chief will not work any more off-duty assignments. Kane In Your Corner also has learned that Everett changed a policy that he appears to have later benefited from. The old policy stated that officers below the rank of sergeant got to call in first for off-duty jobs, but city officials confirmed that he changed the policy to be based on seniority.Kane In Your Corner: Union City investigation
