TRENTON - New Jerseyans are still having trouble signing up on Day 2 of the online health exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act.

The Health Insurance Marketplace website went live Monday morning, but News 12 New Jersey has yet to speak with anyone who has been able to successfully use it. Occasional testing by Kane In Your Corner found more long waits and messages announcing the online marketplace was down, with instructions to "try again later."

Even people responsible for helping others enroll have had problems logging on. At the Henry J. Austin Health Center in Trenton, the counselor helped people fill out paper applications instead.

"They could be mailed with the results mailed back to them," said applications counselor Rachael Richardson. "However, we know that them applying online would be a better, more instant, results-driven approach."

But Richardson hopes that once the online marketplace is up and running, this rocky start will be forgotten. "The question of why the marketplace system is slow is not as important as the fact that their applications will be viewed, and they will shortly know about options for affordable health care," she said.
