NEWARK - Some very lucky children were whisked away this evening on a flight from Newark all the way to Santa's headquarters.

The 37 children aboard are all dealing with serious medical conditions and are being treated at UMDNJ or Beth Israel in Newark.

It was wheels-up from Newark for a 30-minute roundtrip flight to Albany and back before landing at the North Pole, also known as Gate 90.

Once they landed, the children were greeted by Santa and his friends and treated to gifts and singing.

Parents say the trip was extremely special for the children, who spend a majority of their time between doctor's visits and hospital stays.

The flight is an annual event sponsored by United Airlines.
