NEWARK - Police Director Samuel DeMaio says two men targeted residents headed to work and school in eight armed robberies Thursday morning.

The suspects have been identified as Khalif Ford and Andre Glaspie, of Newark. They face several charges in addition to the robberies.

Alyesia Miller, 14, says she was robbed at gunpoint while walking to the school bus. "When he grabbed me, I looked back," she says. "He pulled me around. I thought he was taking me to the van."

The eighth-grader at Greater Newark Charter School was walking to the bus stop around 6:30 a.m. and turned around to get an umbrella. She was confronted by a man with a gun.

"When I told him I didn't have a phone, he shoved the gun in my side," Alyesia says. "I gave him my iPod. He gave me the headphones back."

Lloyd Brown was also attacked, just 15 minutes later, and police believe it was by the same suspects. "I turned around to get the garbage cans," Brown says. "These guys opened up the gate and put the gun behind me."

By 8 a.m., police had arrested two men driving a stolen Dodge Grand Caravan after a brief chase. They were in possession of a gun, and the proceeds from seven of the eight robberies.
