METUCHEN - Workers at the PSE&G headquarters in Newark are keeping an eye on the system that delivers power to more than two million customers. As the mercury rises, power is in high demand.
All across New Jersey, air conditioners were doing overtime as the temperature reached near 100 degrees in many areas. Gary Tilbor, of See More Appliance in Metuchen, says he sells five times as many air conditioners when there's a heat wave.
The highest-ever power demand that PSE&G experienced was during a heat wave five years ago. With Friday expected to be the hottest day of this heat wave, demand could hit a near record.
