FREEHOLD - A former elementary school teacher and her father pleaded guilty Thursday to the murder of the woman’s ex-husband.
Kathleen Dorsett told the courtroom that Stephen Moore had just dropped off their 20-month-old daughter from an overnight visit in 2010 when she sent him to the backyard of her Ocean Township home where her father, Thomas Dorsett, was waiting to kill him.
"I took my daughter into the house knowing all the while my father was in the back ready to kill him," Kathleen Dorsett said in court. "As I changed her diaper, I heard screaming coming from the driveway."
Thomas Dorsett admitted striking Moore with a heavy cable, then with the help of his daughter, loading Moore’s body into the trunk of his car. The father then drove the body to Long Branch where he paid someone to burn it.
Kathleen Dorsett's mother, Lesley Dorsett, has also pleaded guilty to trying to hire a hit man to kill Evelyn Moore, Stephen Moore's mother.
Evelyn Moore is raising the couple's now 4-year-old daughter and is satisfied with the outcome of the trial.
"I feel that Stephen has gotten justice today," Moore said.
Thomas and Kathleen Dorsett are expected to receive sentences at a later date that will keep them in jail the rest of their lives.
