EDISON - Hurricane Irene left a trail of devastation around New Jersey.

Thousands of homeowners are now left with the task of dealing with claims to their insurance companies.

In the first 24 hours after Hurricane Irene, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company says it received more than 2,500 claims from homeowners, more than one for every 100 homes the company insures.

Homeowners are urged to call their insurance company and report a claim if they've sustained damage to their home. They should collect as much information as possible before making the call.
