NEWARK - (AP) - Summations have concluded in the trial of one of six men charged with murdering three college students inNewark in 2007.
Defendant Alexander Alfaro faces 17 counts including murder androbbery. Two defendants already are serving multiple lifesentences.
Alfaro's attorney told jurors Wednesday that his client wascoerced into bringing a machete to the crime scene at a schoolplayground. Raymond Morasse also argued that policeoffered Alfaro a deal to lie about his involvement.
Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Thomas McTigue countered by pointing out inconsistencies in Alfaro's statements.
He said Alfaro was a willing participant in the vicious attack. Allthree victims were shot execution-style after two were slashed. A fourth victim was shot but survived.
Jurors will receive instructions from the judge on Thursday, before beginning deliberations.
