Jury selection begins in Short Hills mall murder case (2/27/17)

NEWARK - Jury selection began Monday in the case of a Hoboken lawyer who was fatally shot during a carjacking in the Short Hills Mall parking lot more than three years ago.

Four men are charged in connection with the death of Dustin Friedland.

Basim Henry is the first man to stand trial.

The shooting happened Dec. 15, 2013 when Friedland and his wife were walking to their SUV.

According to prosecutors, two men confronted the couple and a struggle ensued. Friedland was shot in the head.

Two suspects drove off in the couple's vehicle. Two other suspects followed in a separate SUV.

The other three defendants, Kevin Roberts, Karif Ford and Hanif Thompson, are all behind bars.

If convicted, they could all face life in prison.
