Judge: Probable cause to charge Gov. Christie with official misconduct in Bridge-Gate scandal (2/16/17)

HACKENSACK - A Bergen County judge has ruled that there is probable cause to charge Gov. Chris Christie with official misconduct connected to the Bridge-Gate scandal.

The same judge previously found there was probable cause to let the case go forward, but a higher court judge reversed that decision.

The case then went back to the lower court for reconsideration, and now the judge ruled that the governor could face charges.

Former firefighter William Brennan filed the complaint accusing Christie of failing to stop the infamous lane closures at the George Washington Bridge.

"I'm so disgusted with the corruption in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the office of the attorney general that I'm asking to bypass them directly and go directly to the grand jury,” says Brennan. “If you're on a grand jury or you know anybody serving in a grand jury get me a summons. Bring me in before you and question me under oath and I will give you the evidence necessary to indict the governor."

Brennan also called on the other candidates for governor to come together, calling it bringing Gov. Christie to justice.

The governor’s office responded with the following statement:

“This concocted claim was investigated for three months by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, which summarily dismissed it, after concluding that the very same evidence relied upon again by this judge was utter nonsense. That is exactly what it is. The law requires this judge to have done the same. This is a complete non-event."

The judge has set a first appearance court date for Gov. Christie for Friday, March 10 at 1:30 pm.
