Judge moves forward case involving trio with cache of weapons at Holland Tunnel (2/13/17)

JERSEY CITY - A Jersey City judge has moved forward the case involving three Pennsylvania residents arrested back in June with a cache of weapons at the Holland Tunnel.

Judge Mitzy Galis- Menendez ruled probable cause given by the police officer for pulling over the trio will stand.

John Cramsey, 51, Dean Smith, 53, and Kimberly Arendt, 29, all appeared in court today as the judge ruled against the defense attorney who argued police unlawfully stopped the truck before entering the tunnel.

There were guns-rights decals on the truck, and several weapons were found inside.

The three defendants claim they were on a rescue mission to save a teenager from a heroin den.

Defense attorneys are pressing for pretrial intervention in the hope of getting an offer or plea bargain from the state.

"The judge made the correct decision under the circumstances,” says James Lisa, defense attorney for Cramsey. “Do I think that the cop was being forthright in his testimony, no."

There is still a lot of legal maneuvering going on. The defense attorney is even hoping that ultimately, the case gets dismissed.

The next court date for the trio is April 10.

Tragically, the teenage girl that they tried to rescue died of an apparent overdose last month.
